As these reports were also published in the 'Trout and Salmon' magazine and there is now a copyright issue, our own version will be published on a month to month basis as the season progresses. Hope you find this useful.
July 2009 Now seatrout are moving into our catchment area in reasonable numbers with several upto 5 lbs in weight having been caught and a number of much larger fish seen. Water levels have been high recently but soon go down to make night fishing worthwhile. Of the reported catches, Shamey Lee took fish to 2 lb 8 oz on a silver tube fly. Andrew Winton had sport with small sewin fishing a squirrel and silver fly. Llyn Cynwch continues to fish well. On June the 28th the local anglers competition had good catches even though the weather was a scorcher with thunder threatening. 31 fish were taken to fly in the morning, the largest taken by Danny Hulley a 2 lb 12 oz rainbow. He took the Senior Cups for the biggest fish and heaviest bag totalling 8 lb 8 oz. Gwillym Morris took the Junior's prize for 'Best fish on fly'. In the afternoon bait competition 50 fish were caught. This was won by John Humphries (Seniors) and Aled Hughes (Juniors - under 10 years). An excellent days fishing. August 2009 Wet weather, fluctuating river levels represent a challenge, however if you are flexible and search for fish you will find them. Commonsense dictates that with such water levels, salmonid populations are going to be spread out. What about our stretch at Ganllwyd? Vic, who lives locally did very well last season catching a surprising number of salmon and sea trout on similar water conditions. If you don't try, you won't catch! Further upstream on the Wnion certainly is worth a try. So far last month (July) the following have had fish (sea trout) - up to 4lbs - Shamey Lee, Tudor Bevan (grilse), John Humphreys, Mr. Douley, Alan Dunsmuir, Scott Clifton, Alan Randall, Gavin Jones, Stewart Griffiths, Malcolm Saunders and Paul Owen. Llyn Cynwch is well stocked with good quality fish and catches have been excellent. A combination of the lake and river makes for a productive fishing holiday.
